Where did I do my internship?
I did my internship at the Alameda Boys and Girls Club. The Alameda Boys & Girls Club is a place for recreation where kids stay after school or even outside of school. They provide activities and experiences that enrich the lives of young people in the community. Kids from 6-18 can attend/join the club.
Week 1 ( 02/28) (03/01) 4hrs 45 min
It was my first day and I passed out snack for the kids and I cleaned up after they finished. After that we played board games and card games for a while. After that it was time to do homework and so I helped the kids that needed it.
Week 2 (03/05) & (03/07) & (03/08) 6 hrs
I gave the kids snack and I cleaned up after them again as soon as most of them were done. After that I went into the kids room to hang out with the kids and play with them. After that it was time for homework and no one really needed help so I was just with the kids chilling.
Week 3 (03/12) & (03/14) 6hrs
I gave the kids a snack and I cleaned up after they were done. After that we went to do homework and I helped like 5 kids that needed help with their homework it was almost the same type of homework. After that we went into the games room with the kids to play.
Week 4 (03/19) & (03/21) 5hrs
I gave the kids snack during snack time and I cleaned up after them. Cricket Wireless came in and we got cupcakes and I had to clean up again. After that I went with Gretchen to her class with some kids her class is called seed to table and we made a banana and orange ice cream thing.
Closing Report
I used communication because I had to talk to the kids when I helped them with homework, I also used it when I played games with them. I also used organization when I had to clean up after them when they ate their snack, I used it when I cleaned up and put the board games away. My daily duties were I would come in and get ready for snack time and after that I would clean up after them and I would help the kids with their homework and play games with them. I learned that kids are messy but they are pretty fun, I also learned to communicate more because if I did not speak up then I would not be able to do anything. An obstacle during my internship was that I would clean up after the kids and I would move from the tables for I could help the kids with homework and the minute I would turn around they would get it dirty once again and I would have to clean again. At first when I walked in the first day I was like “this is going to be boring” or “i am going to hate this” I did not want to go through the doors but after I went the first day I was like “it is pretty chill” and as soon as I went after that it was pretty good I enjoyed it and was excited to go every day.
