Some of these things I thought I could do better on but I put them here because I was proud I did them. This was my first essay I actually wrote for English and I'm proud of myself for doing it. I put my Chemistry Final and History final because I worked hard and received a good grade on them.
English:
The Great Gatsby
What is marriage to you? In the Great Gatsby by F Scott.Fitzgerald. The relationship with Tom and Daisy in the novel, does not fully show true love and faithfulness. Throughout The novel, Nick, the narrator describes how Tom cheats behind Daisy with Myrtle, “the fact that he had one was insisted upon wherever he was known.” (Ch2) However, on the other hand, Daisy suddenly fell in love with her old time, lover Gatsby. Why is their marriage riddled with infedelity , what kind of people are Daisy and Tom, and what do I think about their marriage.
Tom cheats on Daisy because Myrtle was prettier than Daisy and she was younger than her. Daisy was always rich and did not need Tom’s money to be a happy person. Tom also cheated because he could not settle down with only one person. He had fun in college and did not want to settle down with one person even though he had a whole family. “Tom would drift on forever seeking, a little wistfully, for the dramatic turbulence of some irrecoverable football game.” (6) This shows that Tom does not want to settle down with one person even with a family. Daisy cheats on Tom because she was bored in her marriage. “ I keep it always full of interesting people, night and day. People who do interesting things.” (90) This shows how Daisy was cheating on Tom with Gatsby because Tom was boring and Gatsby had fun and interesting stuff at his home.
Even for Nick, he does not do anything to tell his cousin, Daisy about Tom’s affair with the tire shop owner, Wilson’s wife. This is so sad to Daisy and if he does not love her why can’t he just have a divorce with her? But, Tom spreads rumors about Daisy, that she is catholic in order to not to have a divorce with her while he cheats behind her back with Myrtle. You see," cried Catherine triumphantly. She lowered her voice again. "It is really his wife that is keeping them apart. She's a Catholic, and they do not believe in divorce." Daisy was not a Catholic, and I was a little shocked at the elaborateness of the lie. (ch2) This is not a true love. Tom is lying behind Daisy and having an affair.
Second, Daisy does not love Tom foley. Throughout the novel, Daisy starts to fall in love with Gatsby. She changed her mind and does not love Tom anymore. But Daisy changed her mind. Say: 'Daisy's change' her mind!'" (ch4) This shows the two characters in the novel, Tom and Daisy does not love each other. Their marriage and faithfulness to each other is false and just a fake public display about their love.
I think that their marriage is all fake love and it is not real love. It is all fake love because they both cheat on each other because they are both bored of their marriage but they never want to leave each other. It is fake love because if they would have been in love with each other then they could have been together and never been looking forward to seeing other people or talking to other people. I think that if it was to be real love then none of this would have happened. I think that if both of them would have been mature enough to speak up and say I do not want to be with you anymore then everything would have been better.
When someone gets married then it is a commitment you have to do both of the people getting married have to actually be in love not just for materialistic stuff for money or such and such. Having to be with someone in any relationship and you do not like them is bad because then you have to fake all the love. For example I was once in a spot where I was together with a person, but I liked the person at first but then I stopped talking to him and I did not want to because I felt bad that I was going to leave him, I stopped though because he kept me from doing work in school and I realized that he was no good for me.
Gatsby is a really faithful person, the realest out because no one will ever stay and wait for you to be with them. No one will do parties just for you could maybe show up or maybe not. There is a point where if you do want someone and you try every single thing possible you will get tired of waiting and you will go find someone else. But in Gatsby’s place he waited all the time being faithful to Daisy ever since he met her. “He talked a lot about the past, and I gathered that he wanted to recover something, some idea of himself perhaps, that had gone into loving Daisy.” (6) This shows how Gatsby always talks about being with Daisy ever since he met her or he saw her he knew that she was the one he wanted for the rest of his life or to spend time with for the rest of his time.
Daisy could have been more mature than what she did because of her Gatsby died and at the end he was waiting for her and she did not even go to his funeral and she left somewhere else which it did not say where. That was so rude of Daisy because she had his hopes up and everything she told him that she would call and he waited for that call and that call never came. I know it was bad for Gatsby to love her too but he was in love and when you are in love you are basically blind and you do not see the bad even if it is right in front of your face. Daisy was on the kid stuff even though she was a whole adult and had a family but she could not just gone up to Gatsby and said I do not think this can work out or to Tom she could have told him I do not want to be with you anymore. She was still on some of the little kids game.
